This post: minimalist summer wardrobe pieces that are modest + classy.
Do you have a summer capsule wardrobe?
Life is way too busy- and summer is way too hot– to spend tons of time figuring out what to wear every day.
Here’s a secret: I’m not a minimalist when it comes to clothing.
I like lots of variety, which is exactly why I prefer to have seasonal capsule wardrobes.
For a minimalist summer capsule wardrobe, I’ve got six essentials that are modest, classy + perfect for looking great while beating the heat.
These pieces mix + match easily + make dressing well in the summer nearly effortless.
6 Essentials for a Modest + Classy Summer Wardrobe
Below are timeless pieces I’ve curated for my personal summer capsule wardrobe. These are items I wear on a regular basis + brands I trust for quality.

My 6 summer capsule essentials:
#1 Capsleeve Camis
A cami is foundational for a modest summer wardrobe.
Of course I don’t have to tell you:
No one likes to layer in the summer. It’s just too hot.
And finding a modest cami is a unicorn-hunt anyway.
That’s why lightweight, no-bulk camis, like the HalfTee, are a must-have.
I’ve worn HalfTees, year-round, for years and years.
In the summer time, I opt for cap-sleeve HalfTees + wear them under my favorite tops (I’ll tell you about those next).
I’ve collected a variety of colors over the years + find that these cropped camis hold up well, season after season.

#2 Flutter-Sleeve Tops
Flutter-sleeve tops are my go-to during the hot summer months in Texas.
I love the feminine vibe of a flutter-sleeve blouse; when you throw on a cap-sleeve HalfTee underneath, you end up with just-right coverage.
Here’s a favorite flutter-sleeve top + Halftee look for summer.

#3 Knee-Length Bottoms
I’m a fan of the knee-length skirt + own several that I wear all summer long.
These mix + match perfectly with my collection of flutter-sleeve tops. (I either do a French or full-tuck; check out this post: Understanding the Rule of Thirds by Jo-Lynn Shane).

Here are my favorite knee-length skirts for summer:
#4 Brown Tote-style Handbag
I enjoy my collection of leather Kate Spade totes, but decided to go a little more low key for a casual, summer look.
For every–day use, I’m loving this vegan leather tote. I own it in the camel-brown color + it complements my summer outfits perfectly.
#5 Tortoise Shell Shades
Popping on a pair of designer shades elevates your look immediately.
I absolutely adore my Kate Spade tortoise shell shades. I’ve been wearing these, nearly year-round, since 2019 and they’re still like new.
If you want to create a timeless look with quality pieces, consider investing in a pair of tortoise shell sun glasses. My personal favorites are by Kate Spade; these right here.
#6 Leather Slides
My go to shoes for summer time are Italian–made leather slides.
Something like this pair by Antonio Melani…
Or these white beauties by Sarah Flint…
The nice thing about slides is that they’re completely hassle-free to put on + they’re more supportive than flip-flops or strappy sandals.
Italian-made slides are pricey but totally worth the investment; they’re incredibly comfortable + stylish, and you can wear them for years.
A true summer capsule wardrobe essential.
