My kids and I are delving into our second week of homeschooling today.
I won’t lie: this school year feels just a bit daunting to me right now.
For the first time ever, I have five school-age kids, ranging in ages from Kindergarten all the way up to high school.
(If I’ve ever idolized the one-room school house idea, I don’t any more!)
I’m being stretched into new capacities as a mom and educator, but then, when is parenting not challenging?
Raising kids challenges us at our very cores, and calls out all that is excellent- and all that is underdeveloped- inside of us.
For me, part of rising to that challenge is taking the time to keep my own heart full, and my mind enriched with goodness.
I spent a few weeks over the summer writing about self-care for women.
I think it’s fitting to wrap up this season with a focus on self-care for homeschooling moms, teachers, and anyone else who is involved in educating and mentoring kids.
Last Saturday, I hosted a Mom Heart Back-to-School “Mini Retreat” for moms with school-age kids.
I felt so blessed to spend a few hours with eight other moms, sharing our hearts, encouraging each other, and focusing on the heart issues of being a full-time parent.
The amazing team over at Life with Sally provided a beautiful packet of worksheets for moms to use and share in these “mini retreats.”
I personally loved these packets, and got a lot of good feedback from my mom friends who did the “mini retreat” with me.
As I was sharing about this “mini retreat” on social media a few weeks prior, a lot of out-of-town moms requested a live video event that everyone could attend via Facebook.
I gave that some thought, and decided to host a second “mini retreat” in my Living & Loving Well Community on Facebook.
If you’re a homeschooling mom, teacher, or a woman involved in discipling children, I’d love for you to join me this Saturday at 2:00 p.m., CST, for a second Mom Heart Back-to-School “Mini Retreat.”
Here’s what you’ll need to do to attend this event:
- Click here to join my Living & Loving Well Community on FB.
- Download the “mini retreat” packet PDFs from the files section in the group.
- You’ll want to print the packets, and keep them handy for the event!
- Create an event on your phone, or mark your calendar for this Saturday, August 25, at 2 p.m., CST.
- Plan to carve out a quiet space for about on hour, so you can tune in and focus during our “mini retreat.”
- A few minutes before 2 o’clock on the 25th, pop in to the group on Facebook. I’ll be there a few minutes early too so we can connect, make introductions, etc.
The “mini retreat” will be a live video, which you can view as a member of the Facebook community.
(I’ll post the video to the group after the event, so you can rewatch it later if you want to.)
You’ll be able to interact with other moms during the event, or post questions during the live video, if you want to.
All you’ll need to be a part of the retreat is to join my Living & Loving Well Community on Facebook, then have your “mini retreat” packets handy.
I recommend having a pen or pencil on hand, and chocolate and coffee are always a good idea too!
Please share this event with homeschooling moms that you know!
(If you feel like you need some encouragement, then chances are your friends feel that way too.)
Unlike a live event hosted in my living room or our church fellowship hall, there isn’t a limit to how many we can gather for this equipping time.
Help me pack our our Living & Loving Well Community this Saturday, and let’s embrace the new school year with life-giving focus and inspiration.
You are worth it!
Hope to see you on the 25th.
