Summer is one of those seasons that begs for warm, beautiful moments.

Simple meals.

Lowered expectations.

Family-friendly schedules.

Moon-lit swims (the moon was brilliant and full last night, did you notice it?).

Good books.

Strong coffee (and generous amounts of cream!).

Inspiring thoughts.

A few quiet afternoons each week to just “think” on paper (or, in my case, on my laptop).

What keeps your mind sharp?

Your body rested?

Your soul beautiful?

Quite honestly, my mind has been reeling lately… muddled with thoughts and fears about the troubled realities of our culture.  Concerned for the future.  Struggling to just let it all go and rest when I lay my head down on my pillow at the end of the day.

Let all those that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee: let such as love Thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified!”

Psalm 40:16

Sleep has always felt like a necessary evil in my life; something I could do without until my body crashed and refused to keep pushing through another busy day.  If motherhood has taught me anything, it’s that rest is a beautiful thing.  A gift from the Creator who never expected me to be Super Mom in the first place.

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so He giveth His beloved sleep.

Psalm 127:2

The demands of life often drain my emotions, my soul, until it feels like there’s nothing left to give.  That’s why cultivating beauty and joy in the mundane spaces of life is so vital- I can keep giving when my heart is full!

The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Proverbs 11:15

Today, I’m challenging you (us) to spend a few minutes cultivating peace (for your mind), rest (for your body), and beauty (for your soul).

Maybe you need to take a nap.

Get off Facebook for a few days or just tune out the negativity around you.

Let the dishes go for one night (I did that last night!), or use paper plates for a few days until you can catch up.

Here’s permission to enjoy your less-than-perfect day, my friend.

Just let go, look up, breathe deep… and let God pour His beauty, rest, and grace into your heart.

A few refreshing reads for your heart and soul…

I cried after I read this, ladies.  The do-er in me desperately needed this gentle reminder.

Another seriously needed read for the task-oriented gals.

Okay, I’m two years postpartum… but I still needed this.  Every woman does.

As a mom with two daughters, this article grabbed my attention.  An informative must-read for mothers.
