I always thought bringing homemade stuffing to the Thanksgiving table was my Grandma’s job.
No one can bake it “just like Grandma”, so why even try?
Two years ago, I came to the Thanksgiving table with a gluten-intolerant newborn. Since I was breastfeeding, that meant no gluten for me. And stuffing is just about as glutenous as a food can get.
As I sat at the holiday table, pushing turkey and cranberry sauce around on my rather barren plate, I contemplated a rather novel idea:
Maybe I needed to pick up the mantle and learn to make my own stuffing.
Two holiday seasons later, I’m still gluten-free (although aforementioned gluten-free son is now weaned, just to clarify!).
I’ll be the first to admit that my Thanksgiving stuffing isn’t quite up to par with my Grandma’s. But it’s pretty tasty, if I do say so myself (even my gluten-eating husband loves it). And it sure beats going stuffing-less at Thanksgiving!
