Sometimes motherhood hurts.
The challenges and disappointments of motherhood can hurt.
The pressures and responsibilities of motherhood can hurt.
The absence of motherhood hurts, deeply.
The pain of longing for a mother figure to guide you through life, that can hurt.
The desire to be a mother when you’re not-
The devastation of losing a child-
The vulnerability of bringing someone else’s child into your heart and home-
The fear that motherhood ushers into your life… the what if’s-
As women, motherhood can be the source of our most profound hopes and disappointments.
Our greatest joys and our deepest pains.
We long to be mothers.
We long to be mothered.
And life- well, sometimes life takes us on journeys far away from anything we would ever consider ideal.
I don’t know where your heart is on this Mother’s Day weekend.
Perhaps wrapped up in memories of a mother you loved and cherished… and deeply miss.
Maybe engulfed in the pain of loss, or pain of disappointed hopes.
Maybe loneliness is your companion.
Maybe even bitterness or anger of what could have been, or should not have been.
Or, maybe you’re just one of the moms who will spend Mother’s Day trying to get three or ten kids out the door in time for church, and enjoy a day reflecting on your blessings and trying to keep the chaos to a minimum in the process. 🙂
If you’re not a mom-
If you’re not even a wife-
If you lost your mom-
Or never even had a real mom-
If you are a mom battling the craziness of life, and a culture that tells us kids aren’t so important as careers and clothes and salary-
Well, I want to just leave you with some encouragement from Scripture on this beautiful Mother’s Day weekend.
Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.”
Another reading of this Scriptures tells us,
She is clothed in strength and dignity. She laughs without fear of the future.”
Motherhood is a gift of womanhood, to many women. But not all.
But these gifts… are for every virtuous woman, every daughter of God.
She is clothed with strength.
Precious sister, you are strong.
Strong in spirit. Strong in mind. Strong, because of Christ.
She is clothed with… dignity.
Don’t allow our culture to strip away your dignity.
Womanhood is beautiful. It is sacred, holy.
Cherish the purity and beauty of your mind, body, and soul.
How often do you laugh?
How often do you smile?
If life feels very heavy and hard for you, ask the Holy Spirit to refresh you with joy.
Without fear of the future.
Are you full of fear? Or confidence?
Who do you believe is in control? God? Or you?
Do you trust your Heavenly Father enough with the future to walk in confidence today?
To my precious sisters, I am praying your weekend is full of refreshing and joy for you.
Wherever you are, whoever you are.
Embrace the day, the moments, and the season.
These are your gifts, from the hand of God.
You are His precious daughter.
Reach out and share a little piece of your day with someone else…
And walk in His grace!
